Correct Filling

Proper drainage is essential for plant health because it prevents the accumulation of excess water, which can lead to root decay. Without proper drainage, plant roots can suffocate due to lack of oxygen, impairing their ability to absorb vital nutrients.

Proper filling of the planter is equally important. A well-ventilated, nutrient-rich substrate allows the roots to expand freely and access the water and nutrients needed for growth.

Following the installation of Domino planters, it is therefore important to consider the proper backfill and drainage system.

STEP 1: THE EXPANDED CLAY.

Begin by placing about 7 to 10 cm of expanded clay with neutral ph at the bottom of the planter, which will have the function of retaining water and releasing it to the roots, by capillarity, as needed.

STEP 2: THE GEOTEXTILE

Next, cover the planters, including the walls, with the geotextile by placing it over the clay layer, ensuring that both the bottom and sides of the planter are covered.

The geotextile fabric will ensure that excess water, which cannot be retained by the topsoil and will therefore drain downward, will escape cleanly from the joints of the base.

STEP 3: THE POTTING SOIL

Then finish filling with the growing medium by preferring a potting soil lightened with pumice stone or similar material but that does not have compost.
